Weight management is about more than appearance. Maintaining a healthy weight may support blood-sugar control, cardiovascular health, mobility, sleep, energy, and long-term well-being.
Obesity is a complex, chronic condition influenced by genetics, hormones, metabolism, medications, sleep, stress, eating patterns, and physical activity. It is not simply a lack of willpower.
For eligible patients, Semaglutide, Tirzepatide, and Metformin may be included in a medically supervised program alongside balanced nutrition, activity, healthy sleep, and ongoing clinical support.
Metabolism includes the processes your body uses to convert food into energy and regulate:
Poor metabolic health may increase the risk of type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, fatty liver disease, sleep apnea, joint problems, and other health concerns.
BMI is one screening tool, but it does not provide a complete picture. Your provider may also consider waist measurement, laboratory results, medical history, current medications, and individual risk factors.
Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist. Different products are approved for type 2 diabetes and chronic weight management. When prescribed for weight management, it is used with reduced-calorie nutrition and increased physical activity. Use only the product and formulation prescribed for you.
Semaglutide acts like the natural hormone GLP-1. It affects brain areas involved in appetite and food intake, helping people feel full sooner and remain satisfied longer. It also slows stomach emptying and supports blood-glucose regulation.
Semaglutide may not be appropriate with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN 2. Serious risks may include pancreatitis, gallbladder problems, severe gastrointestinal reactions, dehydration-related kidney injury, allergic reactions, low blood sugar with certain diabetes medications, and worsening diabetic retinopathy. It should not be used during pregnancy for weight loss. Discuss pregnancy plans, breastfeeding, surgery, anesthesia, severe stomach problems, and all medications with your provider.
Tirzepatide is a prescription medication available in different products for type 2 diabetes and chronic weight management. It acts on two metabolic hormone pathways, GIP and GLP-1, and is used with nutrition, physical activity, and behavioral support.
Tirzepatide activates GIP and GLP-1 receptors. These pathways regulate appetite, fullness, food intake, and blood-glucose control. By reducing hunger and supporting earlier satisfaction, it may support meaningful weight reduction when used as prescribed.
Tirzepatide carries a boxed warning related to thyroid C-cell tumors observed in animal studies and should not be used with a personal or family history of MTC or MEN 2. Other serious risks include severe gastrointestinal reactions, pancreatitis, gallbladder disease, dehydration-related kidney injury, allergic reactions, low blood sugar, and diabetic-retinopathy complications. It can affect oral medication absorption and may reduce oral hormonal contraceptive effectiveness during initiation and after dose increases. It should not be used during pregnancy for weight loss.
Metformin is an oral prescription medication primarily approved to manage blood glucose in type 2 diabetes. It may sometimes be prescribed off-label for insulin resistance, prediabetes, polycystic ovary syndrome, or weight-related metabolic concerns. It is not FDA-approved specifically as a weight-loss medication.
Metformin reduces glucose production by the liver, improves insulin sensitivity, and helps cells use glucose more effectively. It does not directly target appetite hormones in the same way as GLP-1-based medications. Weight reduction is usually modest and varies.
Metformin carries a boxed warning for lactic acidosis, a rare but serious condition. Risk may be higher with significant kidney problems, liver disease, excessive alcohol use, severe infection, dehydration, low oxygen, or certain heart conditions. Kidney function should be evaluated and monitored. Long-term use may reduce vitamin B12. It may need to be temporarily stopped for certain contrast procedures or surgeries.

Each medication has different indications, risks, dosing requirements, and eligibility criteria. They should not be selected based only on expected weight loss.
Some patients may be prescribed Metformin with Semaglutide or Tirzepatide, particularly when type 2 diabetes or insulin resistance is present.
Semaglutide and Tirzepatide are generally not used together. Do not combine weight-loss medications or change treatment without instructions from a licensed healthcare professional.
Prescription medication should complement healthy habits, not replace them. Even a 5% to 10% reduction in starting weight may improve blood glucose, blood pressure, triglycerides, and some other weight-related conditions.
We review your health history, weight journey, medications, previous treatments, lifestyle, and goals.
When appropriate, we evaluate glucose, kidney and liver function, cholesterol, thyroid health, and other markers.
Your plan may include medication, nutrition, activity, behavioral strategies, and clinical support.
Follow-ups monitor progress, side effects, laboratory results, and safe treatment adjustments.
We help build sustainable habits and a plan for maintaining health and progress.
Effective weight management begins with understanding your body, identifying metabolic risk factors, and selecting a safe plan based on your individual needs.
